Conference Health Protocols

We are looking forward to seeing all of you in Memphis for our first in-person conference in three years. We are also mindful of the ongoing risk posed by COVID-19 and want everyone to be as safe as possible.

As we announced last spring, we are monitoring guidelines from the CDC and specifically those for Shelby County (Memphis), Tenn. As of August 30, the county level is “Low,” with the suggestion that “People may choose to mask at any time.” However, please remember that colleagues will be traveling to Memphis from other locations, where the guidelines and community spread may be different.

We do have a few events where a mask will be required. Here’s what you need to know about mask usage at AJHA in Memphis:

Masks required: Historic Tour. These are the bus company’s and the museum’s requirements. If you do not want to take the bus provided by AJHA, note that the Memphis trolley runs from the hotel to within a block of the museum. It is also walkable, and rideshare services (Uber, Lyft) are available.

Masks strongly recommended: Paper & panel sessions (smaller rooms)

Masks recommended: In the hallway between sessions, when looking at auction items, and at communal meals, when not eating. Dining tables will be spread as far apart as possible with no more than 6-8 at a table. Before the pandemic, tables typically seated 10. If possible, we can also look into reserving some tables for people who would like to be masked.

AJHA strongly encourages all conference attendees to be vaccinated and boosted and to take a COVID test before coming to Memphis. Please stay away from the conference if you have symptoms. If you become ill while at the conference, please isolate and send an email to ajhaconvention@gmail.com. We can provide support and notify others of possible exposure.

Please bring your own masks, but AJHA will provide masks for those who forgot or need extra. We will also have hand sanitizer on hand.

Thank you for helping us work to keep everyone safe as we move back to our in-person meetings!

Sincerely,

Aimee Edmondson, President
Mike Conway, First Vice-President
Tracy Lucht, Second Vice-President
Erika Pribanic-Smith, Executive Director
Caryl Cooper, Conference Coordinator
